Course Description: This easy-to-read text focuses on the value of relationships that educators have in schools: with themselves, students, families, and staff. For each relationship, the authors provide practical ways to build, maintain, and restore those connections. There is a particular focus on how these relationships improve student learning and educator resilience. Learning Hours: 3.5 hours to read, 1 hour for online reflections, and 1 hour for participation in the live discussion for a total of 5.5 Act 48 hours or a certificate of completion.

Course Description: This book challenges traditional approaches to school discipline by reframing challenging behavior as the result of unmet needs and lagging skills rather than willful defiance. In this book discussion, educators will explore Greene’s Collaborative & Proactive Solutions (CPS) model and learn practical, relationship-based strategies for reducing challenging behaviors, improving communication, and partnering with students and families to create more supportive and successful learning environments. Learning Hours: 10 hours to read, 1 hour for online reflections, and 1 hour for participation in the live discussion for a total of 12 Act 48 hours or a certificate of completion.

From Chaos to Control: Helping Kids Strengthen Executive Function Skills

Course Description: Children who struggle with executive functioning often face daily challenges with organization, attention, emotional regulation, time management, and completing tasks leading to frustration for both students and the educators who support them. This training is designed to equip educators with tools to recognize executive functioning deficits and implement effective supports. Participants will explore how these cognitive skills develop, what factors impact their success, and how difficulties manifest in school and at home. Through real-world examples, hands-on strategies, and adaptable interventions, this session will help you move students from disorganized and overwhelmed to confident and capable.

Workers’ “Writes” A Picture Book Study on Labor History and Organizing

Course Description: Have you ever wanted to share your union passion with your students? New academic standards in Economics and Career Education & Work expand the academic standards relating to labor rights, history, and unions beyond their presence in the History and Civics & Government standards. Children’s literature highlights these themes and presents a cross-curricular way to integrate learning through literacy (and nostalgia with older student groups). Join your PSEA union siblings in reading and discussing five (5) picture books that highlight labor rights and union history by selecting one book from curated lists around the following themes: Fun Fiction, Labor History, Cross-Curricular Integrations, Kids Organizing, and The Fight for Child Labor Laws. While this book study is designed for teachers and school librarians, anyone who works in schools can benefit from this union-celebrating book study. Learning Hours: 100 minutes to read (20 minutes per book), 80 minutes for online discussion and reflection activities, and 1 hour for participation in the live discussion for a total of 4 Act 48 hours or a certificate of completion.

Course Description: Structured Literacy, Evidence-Based Reading Instruction, and the Science of Reading all seem to be the latest jargon in elementary education, but what does it all mean? Join Dr. Gina Gullo for a deep dive into the legislative changes and implementation timelines and what they mean for you and your students. Start by clarifying the meaning of each term, where they came from, and the root of the evidence base. Then, learn more about updated requirements relating to curriculum selection, professional development, literacy screening, and student supports mandated by recent policy. Bring your questions and concerns and leave with a better understanding of what elementary and middle school educators, reading specialists, and special education teachers can expect in the coming years. This session dives into the timeline of new standards going into effect in 2026-27 (Economics, Personal Finance, Family & Consumer Sciences, and Career Education & Work), standards currently under review (Arts & Humanities and Health, Safety, & Physical Education), and ongoing preparations for the next standards to be reviewed (English Language Arts and Mathematics). Participants will gain insights on what to expect in the coming years, how they can share their input, and support from the PA Department of Education to assist with the implementation of the standards. This session is designed for anyone who uses academic standards in their planning for instruction, support, or goal development; however, those with an interest in the academic standards development process may also find the session informative.

Course Description: This session provides an overview of the requirements for maintaining a valid and active certificate for Pennsylvania educators. The focus will be on converting Level I Instructional and Educational Specialist Certificates to Level II, educator induction program policies, and Act 48 continuing education provisions. An overview of emergency permits, experience-based certificates, and tenure requirements will also be included. Resources will be shared to help participants find answers to common questions and access more detailed information on the topics addressed.
